Louis-Francois Cartier (1819 - 1904) took over Maitre Picard's jewellery shop, at 31 Rue Montorgueil in Paris, marking the beginning of the Cartier dynasty. His Grandson, also named Louis, crystallized respect for the Cartier house with the most influential designs of the 20th century. The legacy of Cartier's simple, elegant designs continues to influence not only Cartier, but the entire watch industry through to today.
